Our Mission:

The Working Group on Poverty and Climate Change (WG PCC) aims to incorporate the social dimension into Climate Change policy and planning. Committee members foster a human rights based approach that is people-centered in the development and assessment of these policies and their implementation. Additionally we promote an approach that focuses on the sustainability of the whole Earth Community.

To this aim, we work to

  • complement the notion of Human Rights with Earth Rights
  • develop our understanding of the relationship between Poverty and Climate Change, including its impact on those living in poverty
  • educate about how life style choices and community and government development plans exacerbate the impact of Climate Change both in the North and in the South
  • articulate clearly the various dimensions of the relationship between Poverty and Climate Change to UN bodies, at UN events, and to our networks and constituents.
